IF I HAD A BOAT

IF I HAD A BOAT

If I had a boat I’d sail away

to a far island and spend the day.

I’d eat lobster and fish, and swim in the bay;

and build a tree house in which to stay.

I’d be a pirate with a long sharp sword,

and a treasure chest where my gold I’d hoard.

I’d wear a black patch over my eye,

and a red bandanna around my neck I’d tie.

I’d look for a cave when the tide was low,

and into its chamber I would go.

By the light of a torch in this dim lit room

I’d dig in the sand for a gold doubloon.

I’d sing and dance along the shore

if I did find the pirate’s store.

And when I’d tire of such play

I’d sail back home to hear mother say,

“Where ever have you been all day?”
